Specialising in screen print, hand stitch and free machine embroidery, my work is often focussed on my immediate environment.
My inspiration is found in the changing seasons of the parkland and fields outside my front door, and the contrasting landscape of the City Centre with its dilapidated, neglected factory buildings and its vibrant renewal and regeneration, from classical Victorian architecture to the contemporary street art and graffiti around our vast canal network. I am consciously aware of Birmingham’s rich industrial heritage, and its resilient ability to reinvent and diversify.
My career as a graphic artist in a screen-printing company demands considerable accuracy, and whilst precision will always present a strong feature within my work, I endeavour to feel and express a sense of rhythm, movement and energy within my creative life.
