After originally studying Fine Art (B.A.Hons) I later went on to study Creative stitched textiles.
My inspiration often comes from landscape, natural forms and traditional arts as these are rich in the colours, patterns and textures that I like to explore.
I use original artwork, photography and computer manipulation to develop my ideas but like to complete these in textiles as I find this gives a more expressive, tactile quality to my work.
I usually work with a sewing machine but the final techniques and materials are dictated by the design and often involve creating my own surfaces using felted fibres or hand-dyed fabrics. and sometimes include less traditional materials such as leather, metal and wood.
I have great respect for tradition but occasionally like to push the boundaries.
